The Waterbury area is one of Des Moines' most iconic neighborhoods and is located in the Des Moines west section of the city in an area bound by I-235 on the north, Grand Ave on the south, Center St and 64th st on the west and Polk Blvd on the east.
Waterbury has a vibrant neighborhood association The Waterbury Neighborhood Association formed in 1995 which has an active membership and holds several annual events. The neighborhood is known for its meandering streets lined with stately brick and period homes from the early 1900's to the 1930's separated by a small stream on the south side. The Waterbury neighborhood was built out in three main phases, 1906-11, 1923-25 and from 1931-1940. There have been a few more contemporary added since then but the neighborhood retains much of it's original charm to this day.
The neighborhood contains a mix of businesses and homes and has a strategic plan which can be read by following this link: Waterbury Strategic Plan.
